Capernaum - Sunday Cinema

March 31 4:30 to 6:30 pm

"Capernaum is an absolute heartbreaker about children in peril and the plight of undocumented people." - Peter Howell, Toronto Star

While serving a 5-year sentence for a violent crime, a 12-year-old boy, sues his negligent parents for giving him life. The film follows Zain as he journeys from gutsy, streetwise child to hardened street kid fleeing his negligent parents, surviving through his wits on the streets. Here he meets Ethiopian migrant worker Rahil, who provides him with shelter and food, as Zein takes care of her baby son Yonas in return.

"Labaki shows us, in granular, street-level detail - using mostly non-professional actors, many of whom are refugees themselves - what life looks like for the unprotected." - Johanna Schneller, Globe and Mail
