Take a Hike West Kootenay – COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Committee PROFILE
The Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation is a non-profit organization that partners with the local School District to operate an alternative education program for at-risk youth in high school. The program has been operating in Vancouver since 2000 and provides a unique combination of academics, adventure-based learning, therapy, and community involvement. Take a Hike would not be successful without its many volunteers who collaborate to fulfill the Foundation’s purpose of “enabling at-risk youth to change their lives.”
Launched in September 2013, Take a Hike West Kootenay is currently underway with growing success, due in part to the commitment of the existing Community Engagement Committee members. The committee is seeking additional community champions who will assist with various aspects of the program including, but not limited to annual fundraising, liaising with School District No. 20 (Kootenay-Columbia), contributing to strategy and the reporting requirements for the Foundation’s Annual Report.
