The Rossland Mountain Film Festival was started in 1999 by a group of locals looking to create a signature event to generate enthusiasm for adventure sports, and celebrate and promote mountain culture and the upcoming ski and snowboard season. The RMFF Society is governed by two volunteer co-chairs and board of directors. The Festival showcases the work of Kootenay filmmakers, photographers and visual artists and offers professional and skill development workshops. This event attracts approximately 900 visitors and locals to five days of programmed events that focus on film, visual arts, music and multi-media productions. Mission Statement The Rossland Mountain Film Festival mission is to create diverse and accessible programming that generates enthusiasm for adventure sports and celebrates mountain culture in a welcoming, intimate environment. The society serves to promote the Kootenays, local businesses, mountain culture enthusiasts, and local media artists by creating first-class events and attracting high-caliber local and international films and presenters. The Society’s programming is highlighted by an annual signature event that draws visitors to Rossland during the fall shoulder season. Goals 1. To encourage the growing new media industry in the Kootenay region by creating a public showcase for talented and generally young local filmmakers. 2. To provide learning and networking opportunities for established and emerging adventure filmmakers through skill development workshops, industry sessions & networking opportunities 3. To create an annual signature event for Greater Trail that would attract a significant influx of visitors during the fall ‘shoulder’ season 4. To promote the Kootenays as a year-round destination 5. To celebrate Mountain Culture and foster a Mountain Culture identity amongst Kootenay residents
